Lyme Regis & Seatown

Hello from Lyme Regis, Dorset :) This Saturday it was a beautiful hot summers day, so I thought, don't have anything else better to do, let's go for a drive. I decided to head down to Dorset and to a coastal village of Lyme Regis which for a Saturday, was a busy little metropolis! First up,I had no idea where I was going to park? It was very hot and for the first time in a very long time, I have a car without airconditioning, didn't think I would have to worry too much over here! So consequently had both windows down and yes I looked a bit "witchy" by the time I took a look in the rear view mirror! It took a couple of car parks and travelling down several steep lanes of the centre of the village before I found another car park which had a few empty bays. Ticket in hand, finally head back to the car and then I set off to tackle the VERY steep hill, a couple of sprays of ventolin, half way up, gave me the chance to actually stop for a breather. I took a couple of shots walking up this road and one when I was at the top of something a little interesting, lets see who notices? :)

Only halfway up the Hillview street :)

For those that don't know this coastline is very famous and is known as Jurassic Coast, many fossils were found in the rocks here going back a very very long time.

Stopped at the top of the hill for a pic in one direction :)

Main street looking down towards the beach.

Still going down (I'm going to have to walk up this later!)

Can see the ocean now, there are some really cute little shops along here, wish my wallet contained a few more pounds and not the moths that are trying to fly out of it at present!

Wow finally down near the beach. I found a Tesco's on the way down and bought a bottle of water and a small chicken wrap for my lunch, headed done to find a nice shady seat, overlooking this beautiful view. I was busy clicking away taking pics and then realised it was nearly 3pm, no wonder I was starving by this time! Sitting on the bench, a got chatting to a really lovely lady by the name of Sue, who had come for a bit of a holiday, she was from Cairns, but not from Aus, but somewhere in Kent, England I think? She straight away commented on my accent, your not from here, you must be Australian! I never thought my accent was that strong, but it seems it is! We had a lovely chat, whilst watching the world go y down before us on the esplanade :) Sue and I said our goodbyes and I decided to go for a walk along the esplanade and maybe go down on the beach. What, NO sand! Lol These pepples take a bit of getting use to! I'm so glad that I have thick sandals on, otherwise I would have loved walking along the beach and not looked so much like a retard! I actually cannot believe my eyes, people actually baking themselves in the hot sun! Melva if your reading this, not a pretty site I can tell you! Some people need to be told I think, there should be a law against fat bellies and budgie smugglers :( After all, you wouldn't see me down here in a bikini, think its only fair, don't you?

Didn't find the fishing trips lol next time

The sea was so calm today :)

Them damn pepples!

When I was chatting with Sue, she told me to head along the coast further, I headed off as I was starting to get a bit tired and headachy. Time for a Bex and a laydown, but alas, I'm not laying on those pepples, like some are! So I head of, omg these hills! By the time I get back to the car, thought I was having a coronary! Sat in the car for a good five to ten mins, just to regain my composure lol

Ok off we go! Where are we going GPS? Don't know the name of the next place? Start heading off, and get lost on a few of the main roads, after going around in circles and finally finding where I wanted to go, I'm suddenly in the tiniest lane in the whole of Britain, even breathing in, doesn't make it any easier to pass!

This is a BIG lane!

Down the end of this long long lane is a little village right on the coast called Seatown. I took some pics, hope you enjoy them, I then decided to stop for a drink at the Inn before heading home to Zommerzet.

Thought this looked interesting!

Well it's home for a rest, see you next post xxxx

Where are you Doc?

Sunday morning, woke up from slumber and realised that I have had the best sleep in ages, the bed was quite firm but very comfortable. One that was really thick in the base, so you didn't move around much in the night. I had closed the black out curtains and had no idea what the time was? I did set the alarm, as I stirred could hear people in the rooms next door ever so faintly moving around and showering, thought maybe I should glance at my watch, shit! Is that the time? 8.15am wow I have had a good sleep in :) I did stay up rather late though watching the Glastonbury Festival on Telly, I was trying to get into the rapper that was on, but he just didn't do it for me, I had missed the old blokes "The Rolling Stones" I had forgotten that they were going to be on earlier.
Well maybe in two years time, that's when it's held again, I might go !  Glastonbury kind of reminds me on all the old "Woodstock" days for those that remember them :) peace, free love and lots of that green stuff, oh and the music. I never went to Woodstock, but I do remember a little place in Qld called Nimbin think that's how it's spelt, they are still stuck in a bit of a time warp, of those day's.  That's what Glastonbury reminds me of, lots of free spirits roaming the streets, busking and wearing what the hell they feel like and don't give a f#%#.

Now that I have deviated from what I intended, I will get back on track now. After showering and getting dressed, ahhh still had time for breakfast, so trotted down to lounge area (where I actually had a nice sandwich and soup for dinner last night). The lounge was full and I appeared to be the last person down, felt eyes on me, as i sat down. I ordered a cooked breaky, because that's what you do, when it's paid for. I must say that I love the food over here and that is a dangerous thing! The Bacon is so yummy
and has a smokey flavour I have never tasted anywhere. The mushrooms tasted like field mushrooms, so full of flavour and all the dairy products are just well too darn nice! I can see that I will just have to NOT buy them! Clotted cream is to die for over here and yes it probably would contribute to a few heart attacks or strokes on the way!

Ok I have made a decision, I have had breaky, paid my bill, had a bit of a chat to the waitress and I'm off to Port Issaac in Cornwall, or better known to all Doc Martin fans like myself Port Wenn :) I decide to drive down to Exeter and have a look see at that place, but after getting totally lost and confused with the ring roads into the city, I decide to keep on going and head on go Cornwall. What an absolutely fabulous part of the English countryside! I apologise for some of my pics, the amount of pic opportunities I had when driving down the M5 or one of the minor roads, there is just NO where to stop and get that scenic shot! I somehow think that the traffic behind you aren't going to be as patient, waiting for you to get "that shot". I managed a few coming around quite corners, as the view was just so specky.

I have definately found a new hobby, I love my camera and I'm very interested in joining a photography group. I'm not very good in that I only know and use the "auto" settings, but sometimes I see things and I know it would look good a certain way.  I think maybe I have a little flair :) I see things that I would like to photograph, but I can't always get to them!

Anyway enough jibbering, onward Port Issaac, I arrived around 12.30pm or a little after. What a fabulous little village, I LOVE IT! Instantly I'm pumped and I can't wait to go exploring. I firstly have to find a car park, that could be a challenge. I see that it's not very sleepy, there is a tourist bus in the lower car park and quite a few people about, but not manic, so I put my ticket in the car and head off down the single lane road, hoping to get a glimpse of a building I recognise from Dr Martin.
Not too long down the little lane I turned a corner of the street to get my bearings to see where I was and there and behold was the little school and church where ??? Having blonde moment, can't think of her name? worked. it will come back to me! I continue down and then I find the famous wharf where all the action seems to happen and where there is a lot today, apparently there is a Doc Martin Rowing Team against the "local" team and as I'm looking around, to my great surprise, who should I see?  Yes there's Old Bert and his son Al, wow!  I have to pinch myself, feel like I'm on the set of one of their shows :) but they are all going about the business of getting together to raise funds for charity and win this boat race. I was totally consumed by all of this, seeing up the hill where Dr's house/surgery was, I walked the hill and geez it IS as steep as it looks on telly! I have taken pics of it but couldn't get up close and personal because it is a private property now and in one pic you will see a blue car in front of the house. I snuck a shot though lol

I walked around the village, found the chemist shop, which is the lolly shop, so had to buy some lollies in there, went to the dr's cafe and had a cuppa, met a couple of really nice ladies whom I invited to share my table. One was from Exeter (Sheila) and the other lovely lady (whose name escapes me, I'm sorry ) was from a little place called Brude. We all had a great chat about travel and jobs and the lack there of, for me, they wished me well and we all went our separate ways, but before I left I picked up a few post cards and had a bit do a chat to the cafe owner about the famous pics inside of Dr Martin and asked if I could take a photo of the Cafe for my friend Lita :) It's called the Stowaway Cafe and they sell all sorts of Dr Martin stuff in there, pics of Martin having coffee with Bert etc
I stayed in Port Issaac for 3 or 4 hours, there was so much to see and I just enjoyed the atmosphere and the rowing teams and people drinking and laughing and generally enjoying the best of the weather which was warm with a bit of a breeze coming off the sea, you could actually get burnt, if you stayed out too long!
Anyway I hope you enjoy my trip to Port Issaac aka Port Wenn, as much as I did! Here are my pics, and until next weekend's journey xxxxxx
