Bank holiday Monday 26 August 2013

Hello to all my family and wonderful friends once again xxx I feel like I have just finished a blog, and I'm starting another! Feel like I need to just go with the flow at the moment, as it's a beautiful sunny long weekend here today in Somerset for the Bank holiday, I have decided after having a very nice sleep in this morning and treating myself to a nice cooked brunch (All healthy too!) I had lovely eggs and mushrooms and tomatoes and a small rasher of thin smokey bacon, all on a piece of gluten free toast. I thought I would need a reasonable meal, as I intended to walk it off today. Made a nice coffee and sat down to see on the map where I might go today :) with money being a little tight, I have to air on the side of caution, so I decide to take a trip to Weston Super Mare, a seaside place right on the West coast of England, Nor west of Oakhill and about a 45 min drive, if all goes to plan.

I managed to hit one diversion, gee there are a lot around at the moment, but then I suppose there has to be whilst the weather is fine and they can work on the roads. Wouldn't be great to have to fix up the roads through winter time :(

I had a beautiful drive in the country again today, window down, cool breeze coming in the other side. Only a couple of places today, I had to do the quick think, push the windows up quick, to get rid of the poo smell thing! I suppose one has to be accustomed to the smell of that as we are after all in a "rural" area. It has been a very long time since I was around farms, it takes some getting use to! I suppose I prefer that to the smog of a city and the stop, start on the freeways. Although UK is pretty renowned for its traffic on the M4 or m5 or any of the main highways, but the good thing here is, you are on the smaller roads mainly, unless you have long distances to travel, in which you would take that option.

Traffic is building up, roundabouts are getting tricky, I have to pay attention to Noname GPS lol phew I finally find the way through the centre of the town to the Royal Parade and the main strip if you like, which runs parallel along the beach front (well I'm expecting to see a beach, some water?) mostly mud at this minute, oh the tide is still out! It kind of reminds me of the day I was at Burnham on Sea, although the town there was not much to write home about. I'm now following the signs for Parking, I keep going and going further around the point, thinking to myself, this is going to be a decent walk! Finally I find a spot around the corner of the point, not much up this corner of town, it's a bit bland, but there is a beautiful wood Forrest to walk through, but I change my mind quickly as there is a young bloke sitting on his bike and he is on his phone, waiting for someone, I got a bit of a chill, I had started to walk up the path, but back tracked and went past him. Thought, not this time Josephine! I got the feeling he was a druggy, when I went past him he sort of grinned at me, but he didn't look with it, so that was my queue, to exit that part of the Forrest and walk around the end of the point, there was some kind of industry, out on the channel, not sure what it was.

No signs up, so I can't tell you, you will have to guess!

Continue working around the footpath, oh that's where the car park is, oh well, I'm not walking back now to get my car, I have come so far!

I come across a few good shots of the promenade as I am getting closer to a man made lake. Which seems to be a popular spot for everyone, obviously, as you can't really go swimming out in the Bristol Channel.

A pic of the man made lake.

A couple of guys were having some fun on these boards, gee I don't think I would be able to stay upright!

The man made lake at Weston Super Mare, you can see the Bristol Channel in the distance.

Looking back to the point of the promenade.

These buildings seem out on an island?

More fun in the sun on the lake.

The Marine Lake Causeway was built in 1932.

The boats look funny sitting out there without any water!

And the ferry!

One of those body bouncer things (blue thing in background)

Man made beach, don't really like the colour of that sand much :(
Donkey rides, kids having fun, having rides up and down the beach.
The Grand Pier.

More Promenade.

This little boy was told to stay still while his sister went back to get a drink, I had to take a pic of him, I was having a bit of a giggle to myself, he was doing what he was told, good boy!

A lovely old Thatched roof Restaurant, from 1774.

Grove Park

Love the colour combo's here :)

Well people that is the end of my trip for the day, is now time I hit the sack, I have work tomorrow! Yayyyyy I'm with the Architect all this week. Then two weeks at another place in Bath.

So until my next post, which might be on the weekend or it may have to wait till the following weekend, till then, have a good week. lots of love Alana xxxxxx
