Quick - let's go somewhere, it's stopped raining!

Well hello to all my beautiful family and friends on this glorious Sunday, being the 19/08/2013. Wow where is the time going, I ask myself? Another week gone and boy is has been a fabulous productive week I must say! As most of you know, last week I was working as a temp in Bath at the Architect's. I was totally buggered after working a week. Hahaha. I had the weekend to refresh a bit and the weekend kind of spilled over into Monday and then Tuesday.

I did have a very bad tooth dilemma this week, so was in absolute agony, but fortunately I got to the dentist and after several needles later, I couldn't actually feel her tapping it! Yes I was going through the roof! Now need root canal work etc argh.... Came home, no whiskey in the cupboard, bloody nothing! I was In tears with pain, had one poor friend I chatted away to, to help me get through it, I couldn't talk on the phone, couldn't drink, otherwise I wouldn't have dribbled the lot down my front, no whiskey in the cupboard, it was dire straits, I can tell you! All good now though, can eat again, so there goes the lose 3kg plan for the week haha.

I had a phone call last week from Hays Recruitment Agency and they asked me in for an interview, this was one that had just given me their card and told me to send in my CV, so I was quite shocked when they rang. Anyway when they did ring I was working, so had to wait till my lunch break and then ring them, so organised to go in, before my dentist appointment, wouldn't have been wise afterwards, besides I looked like a stroke victim (no offence to anyone here) my face was deformed and I was dribbling, not a good look when you want to impress I thought! I went into Bath in my car to the Park and ride, caught the bus in for £3.20 return and then walked a couple of mile to the agency (bath is such a big place, but I must say I love it!) Interview went well, well I thought it did, I just decided to be myself, if they didn't like me, their loss. Amelia was half my age or even less, she seemed interested in my past experience and was very diplomatic not to point out that I was "old" they are not allowed to mention your name anymore you see at any of the agencies, so you could see her trying to work all the math out in her head when she was going through the pages of my experience!

Wednesday I decided I would go find a Funeralcare place I. Radstock, which is not that far away from me, so it wasn't a very pleasant day, rainy and I didn't feel like doing much else, so got all dressed up and off I trott, CV in folder (my PINK folder) can see me coming for miles against my black! I finally found somewhere to park, I tell you, these little villages, didn't think about the traffic flow and car parking, ts an absolute pain in the #^*%^. Finally get into the building, get met by a lovely woman by the name of Jenny, couldn't help but check out the uniform. Nothing on Bowra & O'Dea, I hate to say :( a blue wide pin stripe suit, but looked like they were wearing a t/shirt underneath :( a little untidy, no badge. Don't be too picky Alana! At least it was a uniform, not like the one I actually bought for that other Independent guy, who hasn't even had the decency to call me back! Jenny had a nice chat to me and I found out that she had even in the funeral business 17 yrs, so she ha 10 yrs up on me, but she was younger than me, had done the job from school, which I thought was very interesting. She told me I would have to go to Bath to the "hub" of Funeralcare office, I was only there yesterday, I thought, oh well, off I go again!

Got the bus from Odd Down (or should I say odd name lol) then I walked and walked and walked, trying to find this place, thank goodness I had my trusty phone with me, with the GPS as I probably would have walked the entire length and breadth of Bath otherwise! I must say though was a gorgeous place it is, I went down near the Avon River this time, near a big park and a main bridge going over it, was so lovely, people everywhere, lots of alfresco dining places, caves etc, no shortage of where to have your lunch. But this day I was watching my £'s so I had my water and thought I will wait till I am ready to go home, might find a cheap cafe on the way back and get a cup of tea and a scone, or sandwich. I walked down near the very old main bridge, and realised its the one that Nash Partnership (the architect's) that I worked for, are going to be restoring and doing up, apparently it goes back to the 18th century. There is so much history in this place, yet there is still so much new things going on, all melded into one, but it still manages to work.

Thursday is get the paper day from Wells, I took a run into Wells and went to the Library, picked up a book I had ordered "How To Get A Job You'll Love" by John Lees, which a lovely lady told me about when I was in Rosie's Tea Shop one day (my favourite friendly couple I know in Wells, that always have a smile and a chat to me and listen to me endlessly go on about my job searching!) Thanks Rosie and Mick and thanks for the lovely hot cup of tea you always provide me with a smile :) anyway back to the book, I thought I would get it as this lovely lady, (can't think of her name right now?) Told me it was a must book to get, and as a fellow job hunter as well, we sat together and swapped tips, she was in a different field, so I didn't feel as if she was taking my jobs and visa versa. Basically gets down to a very short 2 page CV with a very punchy cover letter selling yourself using bullet points and not fluffing it up too much, being able to back it up with what you have in CV. I have redone my CV about three times and thought something had to be wrong as I wasn't getting the "yes" pile, I was getting the "sorry no thanks/ditch in bin pile." I think the other thing was, I had not any experience in UK and that seemed to be off putting at first. Anyway after my ritual cuppa at Rosie's, I walked around Wells, having a wonder as I normally do, looking in shop windows, looking for job ads, whilst looking at things I can buy when I am flushed with cash :) I have another ritual of going down to St Margaret's Charity shop for a peruse :) they have awesome charity shops over here, check out the furniture, crockery, linen, clothes last lol Nara nothing today, say hi to Sarah? Think that is her name, the Manager, she knows me now :) ok time to get the paper, wander around the corner, picking up the paper, suddenly (shit!) bloody parking meter, I strolled off forgetting I had stuffed the ticket up and instead of getting my usual 3 hour one, which leaves me time to do everything, I had put a £ in and it ave me a ticket only for an hour, damn! I walk very quickly back to the car park. Muttering under my breath, Car park angels please...... You know the rest, thinking I might be too late, but no kept saying over and over, protect me from a parking ticket please!!! Get to the car, No ticket! Very grateful, thank you, thank you, thank you xxxxx

Friday morning up early, or tried to every day this week, as I'm on the agencies books, could get "the" call any time. No it didn't happen this morning, and what a miserable morning it was, rain, stormy weather, I didn't really want to go anywhere! So I knew I had to do clean out the fridge and see what was edible and what I needed for shopping, which was quite a lot now, second week, nothing much in the fridge! Hmmmm looking looking, not very inspiring. So make up my basic list, now Alana, your NOT to go over this when you get to the shops, right? Off I go to Tesco's. Walk though the front door and have my usual look to the right to see if my favourite man was at his counter, omg, heart starts pounding, don't look obvious Alana! Wasn't watching where I was going, ran smack bang into a stand of newspapers by the door! Duh, if he didn't see me before, he surely has now! So I decided to be brave and go say hello :) Told him about my job the previous week, we had a bit of a chat, then he obviously had a camera on him or had to look busy, or he was trying to give me the flick, with oh I have to make a phone call, so with that, I left him and went into the pj section just around corner and bought myself some new pj's, something I will need more of as I left a lot home. Went ahead and finished my shopping and took it home, when I was putting everything away, my phone rang, it was the Hays Agency, the second one to sign me up. Good news! Would I be interested in a 12 week placement? Is the pope catholic! Wow Amelia said that it was with a wine cellars place, they are the largest in UK and store wine from all over UK and Europe etc. she said they want someone bubbly (thought, now there's a good pun!) and she said I thought of you straight away! How nice was that :) everything was pretty positive, she has to ring the company and tell them I said yes, the only draw back or slight negative thing is that it is near to an hour's drive to and from work each day :( but to tell you the truth, I was so excited about the prospect of a 3 month job with the possibility of permanency, I have weighed that up. I could always look at it after I have been where I am 5 or 6 months and if I love the job so much, move a little closer, which brings me to today

Sunday, still raining on and off, darn it. I am going to go out, it WILL fine up! I decide that I'm going to go for a mock run to this new job, to get a feel for the roads and the traffic and whether I will cope with it. Drove through some gorgeous little villages, didn't go through Bath this time, kind of went east of Bath. Harding for Holt Trowbridge, Frome Road, but of course, there has to be all these road diversion's don't there? Which throw my GPS into a sweat because I'm not going the way she's telling me too, not only that, I haven't actually got a clue myself really! One good thing though the roads over here are really well sign posted, so you can get a pretty good idea. I stopped at a petrol station for some water to drink, it's warming up, got the window down and a lovely breeze coming through, no manure aroma today! I finally check out where The job is to be, by putting in the postcode. Oh dear it's back that way, haha. I worked it out without my stops it was about 50 to 55 mins to work, so not too bad, it use to take me 45 sometimes to Medina.

When I have realised how long it's going to take me to get back home, I decide to take it a bit easy on my way back, have a bit of a look around. Nothing much in Corsham to tell you the truth, it's just farmland, but still pretty. Get closer to Bradford on Avon, what. Beautiful place, oh I like this place! I could live here :) the traffic was a bit busy on the main road, but I manages to find a free car park, being Sunday (yay!) I then decided to take a walk, I'm right near the river Avon, it's lovely :)

This was in the park, a little fountain, pretty flowers, the river is just in the background.

Looking up the river to the right.

Some of the most amazing trees in this park, so old, I'm not sure what they are?

Just beautiful xx

Look at the double base of this one :)

Walking Up the Main Street now towards the bridge going over the Avon River.

Look T this cute little place.

I was looking for Anne here lol .... "The Three Gables" not Green Gables Alana!

Such interesting buildings!

Looking up river to the left.

This was in Holt I think, just a little way out from Bradford on Avon. The church caught my eye.

Not sure of this flower, but it was absolutely splendid, it was just outside the church, I'm really enjoying taking shots of flowers, hope you like this one?

Can't read the sign, but took my life in my own hands when I took camera in hand on a quite stretch of the road and snuck this shot!

Drove all the way home and what do I see in my pond?

The most beautiful water lilies you have ever seen :) can't see our resident ducks today and no frogs at the moment, but I'm sure the're around.

Well lovely people its the end of a beautiful day and a great week for me, good news all round hopefully working, this week and next week and then staring this new job, come September, but have asked for a week off, so if you bowra girls are reading this, yes I'm coming to Cornwall to see you, so you best contact me if you still want to catch up xxx.

So until my next post everyone, enjoy life and what it has to offer, I'm finding more and more wonderful things each day xxxx love to you all xxxxxx Alana.

Oh and I'm day 19 of my meditation challenge and loving it. Also seriously going to join a Rambling club here (serious walking club) I'm on the beginner level still I think, only a couple of mile at the moment, not quite up to 8 to 10 mile hikes yet, but I Will get there.
